Sudnya Shroff / a solo exhibition: Weaving the Rainbow
Agora Gallery is delighted to present the work of an unusual, exciting and evocative artist in a solo exhibition dedicated to her work. Sudnya Shroff / a solo exhibition: Weaving the Rainbow displays creations which reach out across physical, mental and cultural boundaries to touch our shared emotional potential and depths. The exhibition will begin on September 15, 2012 and continue until October 5, 2012. The opening reception will be on September 20, 2012. Entrance is free and all art lovers are encouraged to attend and view these enthralling pieces.
Sudnya Shroff has spent much of her life juggling the responsibilities and demands of numerous familial and professional roles. While all of these have been important to her in different ways, it is only through painting that she finds a personal space of peace and freedom. This sense is conveyed in the works themselves, which steal into the hearts and minds of viewers, soothing and revitalizing.
The artist describes her paintings as snapshots of her internal state at the time of creation, much like a photograph might capture an external scene. It is this courageous frankness which makes the works so instantly eye-catching, as if what they have to say is directly relevant to everyone who is willing to face up to and engage with their own inner life.
Having been an engineer for many years, Shroff has never taken professional art classes and her skilful excellence is entirely self-taught. She experimented with a number of materials and methods before reaching the realization that she needed to be as directly involved with her work as possible; her main technique now is to use free flowing paint which she manipulates with her bare hands.
There is a tantalizing element to Shroff’s works. It seems as though she is offering us an awareness of something available to us yet somehow just out of reach – only through the paintings themselves can we gain a clearer vision of our own potential and that of the world, and appreciate how it can be accessed. The result is that each piece seems to contain a universe of possibilities, immersive and constantly renewed.
Passion and enthusiasm characterize the canvases, bringing each painted mark to life. The vibrant colors which Shroff favors breathe a profound level of emotional reality into the works, reflecting the artist’s own experiences and connecting them to our own as well. Lively, lovely and full of inspiring motion, the paintings seem poised to enter into dialog with anyone sensitive enough to pause by them.
