A new solo exhibition is coming to Agora Gallery this winter. The works of Z. Todorova will fascinate and intrigue audiences, encouraging viewers to forget the outside world and concentrate instead on the themes, colors and forms of this remarkable collection. The exhibition will open on November 29, 2011 and will continue until December 20, 2011. The opening reception will take place on December 1, 2011, and as always entrance is free and art enthusiasts are warmly invited to attend.

Z. Todorova was born in Sofia, the capital of Bulgaria, although she has been living and working in Germany since 1997. From a very young age she became aware of the importance of creativity and its powerful ability to transform our lives. She grew up in a home which understood the necessity of allowing talent to flourish, and early on she began drawing and painting. She was instructed in the technical basics of fine art at only ten years old, when she attended a national program for talented children. The artist has found that art has remained a vital part of her life and sense of personal expression.

She has spent a good deal of time during her adult life traveling, exploring the globe and reveling in the different cultures she has found on her journeys. She is aware that in different ways, these experiences of the way people live has fed into and informed her art, and her impressions of the places and people she has met often find their way into her works.

Although she considers it important to satisfy aesthetic demands through her creative process, Z. Todorova has a strong message which is a crucial part of understanding her art. This concerns the relationship and connection between humanity and the earth on which we live, something the artist feels is often given insufficient thought. She feels that her original preoccupation with the natural world came from her Bulgarian heritage and upbringing, as she feels that that culture is firmly rooted in respect for people and nature.

Much of the symbolism in her works reflects aspects of this guiding concern, and she hopes that viewing her art will help her audience to appreciate more fully what she calls ‘the inseparable symbiosis between man and the earth to which he is connected.’ She is also interested in social relationships and through her work tries to encourage an attitude of self-reflection in her viewers.

Although her message is one that animates her and often provides the central concept for a piece, she is not afraid to explore the possibilities offered by a variety of techniques and mediums, including wood and metal. In this way she is able to ensure that her creations always retain a fresh feel, the product of their author’s willingness to seek innovation. However, she has developed her own method and style, and this makes its mark on every piece, leaving no doubt about whose collection it belongs to.

Lively, potent and thought-provoking, the chance to see the work of Z. Todorova should not be missed!
