A new group of exhibitions is coming to Agora Gallery this week. Beginning June 2, visitors can enjoy the following exhibitions on view: The Substance of Abstraction; Unbound Perspectives; United in Art: Fine Art from England, Ireland, Scotland, and Wales. As with many of the shows at the gallery, each exhibition is intended to be an entity of its own, complementing and informing each other.

The Substance of Abstraction
, as its title indicates, focuses on abstract work. Despite the non-representational unifying process, this exhibition features a considerable variety of approaches.

Unbound Perspectives in contrast to The Substance of Abstraction, includes paintings of many different styles and themes. While the artwork varies stylistically, these artists share a common desire to inspire a recollection that the world is stranger than one may realize, and that a true appreciation of it must involve a willingness to see reality anew. Whether it is through the allegory of the work of Juan Lopezdabdoub, or through the landscape views of Tibet by Terry Wang, this exhibition offers its audience much to contemplate.

Fine Art from England, Ireland, Scotland, and Wales . Considering art from a national perspective could appear to be an irrelevant endeavour, given the difficulty of measuring the actual impact of one’s nationality and origin on one’s art. The visitor will however realize that the impact of a culture on one’s mind and visual memory – which one could describe as sources of inspiration, or influences – is a fascinating question upon which to reflect. This exhibition offers the opportunity to discover an extraordinary diversity of styles, techniques and themes.

The exhibition as a whole challenges its audience to reflect on the connections – often more complex than we assume – between abstraction and realism, nationality and universalism. It is worth looking into and exploring with open-mindedness and curiosity.
