It is generally accepted that art articulates a definable viewpoint of the artist. The three new exhibitions at Agora Gallery profoundly exemplify this concept, which was reinforced in the conversations that took place at last Thursday’s opening reception there. Unbound Perspectives; The Persistence of Form; and Treasures of the Amazon Rainforest: A Solo exhibition of Photography by Robert Oelman, provide powerful commentary on the great breadth of artistic methods. Whether upholding an established style or rejecting all preceding tenets, whether meticulously accurate or suggestively abstracted, none of the works on view are void of artistic conviction.
Nearly an hour before the opening, nineteen of the exhibited artists arrived for a preliminary viewing of the show. Abound with emotion-laden anticipation, they perused the art in the gallery’s partitioned spaces before gathering to hear the laudatory words of Gallery Director Angela Di [...]

The opening reception will be on the evening of this Thursday, November 29, 2012. In Unbound Perspectives the audience is treated to a magical, beguiling view of how the world could be. Seen through the revelatory lens of the artist, ordinary objects and scenes take on a new [...]
Robert Oelman, who will soon be displaying his compelling works in Treasures of the Amazon Rainforest: A solo exhibition of photography at Agora Gallery, has led a fascinating life, and his path to the wonderful artworks he creates today has been a rich and varied one. He received a PhD in Psychology from the Union Institute and University, and practiced as a licensed clinical psychologist for many years. In the early 1990s, he immersed himself in the study and practice of a variety of experientially-oriented psychotherapies, something that led him to travel to India, where he meditated with a spiritual teacher. This profound experience changed his sense of priorities and gave him the courage and energy to ‘jump out of the endless analytical psychology loop’ and stop practicing psychotherapy.
As the air turns increasingly colder and the days grow shorter, seek out a refreshing feeling of light, warmth and optimism at Agora Gallery – something that seems particularly welcome considering recent weather events. Bask in the fervor and imaginative joy that flows from the work on the walls, bringing an atmosphere of interest and cheerfulness to the gallery. The latest exhibitions open on November 1, 2012 and run until November 21, with the opening reception taking place on the evening of Thursday November 8, 2012. As always, art lovers are welcome and entrance is free – and don’t forget that you can take in the remarkable work of George Oommen at the same time in his solo exhibition, also at Agora Gallery.
This November, a memorable solo exhibition is coming to Agora Gallery, featuring the work of George Oommen, an artist who pours the passion and beauty of his memories and the delight and intelligence of his inner life into his lively, energetic creations. The result is a show which honestly reflects the painter’s integrity and experiences, yet also reaches out to an audience of diverse backgrounds and knowledge, tapping into the best that is universal to humanity.
Oommen is continually inspired by Kerala, the place he was born and raised at the southern tip of India, and which he describes movingly as ‘an earthly paradise.’ He returns there every year for an annual visit of a few weeks, and he [...]
The opening shows Portals of Perception, Beyond Borders: An Exhibition of Fine Art from Canada, and Elements of Form, Kozo Takano’s solo show, at Agora Gallery on Thursday evening continued to affirm the gallery’s place as a fine art leader, attracting a substantial and energetic crowd indoors from the beautiful, crisp fall weather.
Kicking the evening off with glasses of prosecco and introductions, Gallery Director Angela Di Bello spoke briefly on how incredibly important art communities, such as the galleries in New York, are for uniting people and ideas. She also spoke about what a freeing opportunity art can represent, as it allows artists to experiment with new ideas and emotions, and she asked the 19 artists in attendance to speak briefly on what inspires them to create. One by one each artist had the chance to speak about themselves and their lives, and [...]

As always, art lovers are warmly welcomed to attend.

The opening reception will take place on October 11, 2011. As always, art enthusiasts are warmly invited to attend.
Kozo Takano says that his first genuine artistic inspiration struck him out of the blue, when he was 17 years old and walking down a dusty road. He was mesmerized by the patterns the gravel had made, and a painting was born in his mind. From there, he has never looked back, but has gone from strength to strength [...]
