It was a pleasantly warm Manhattan night this December 5, 2013, when we at Agora Gallery opened our doors to artists and art appreciators alike in celebration of the opening of three astounding exhibitions: Persistence of Form, Unbound Perspectives, and Divine Stardom: Lady Gioconda / A Solo Exhibition.
Making this night even more special, our sponsors for the evening, Soave, provided our guests with a wide range of their delectable white wines. With Soave representatives lending a hand with refreshments, I had more time to mingle with guests and artists and enjoy a particularly resplendent evening.
Standing amidst her luxuriant paintings, solo exhibition artist, Lady Gioconda, walked me through her process of creating her Renaissance-inspired celebrity portraits. “Any portrait must be a spiritual portrayal [...]

“It’s a good thing we got here early,” said an art-appreciator to her husband. “It’s going to get crowded, fast.” Clearly, she had been to one of Agora Gallery’s receptions before. Within minutes of opening our doors to the public, the gallery was packed with people who had come to enjoy our exhibitions, The Kaleidoscope of the Mind, Illumination: An Exhibition of Fine Art Photography, and Breaking Boundaries / Femmes à l’honneur: Henri Gueguen – A Solo Exhibition.
In Gallery II, Henri Gueguen’s solo exhibition was a big hit. Everyone wanted to know how he creates his portraits of women out of rows of carefully arranged pens. The secret? He carefully takes the pens apart, extracts the ink, mixes it, and replaces it with different degrees of [...]

Celebrating their opening night on Thursday, October 11th at Agora Gallery were the three very exciting exhibitions: In Reverie of Form, Elements of Abstraction, and Beyond Borders: an Exhibition of Fine Art From Canada. From as close as Harlem to as far as China, our artists and guests seemed to hail from all over, and that’s not even including our northern neighbors, whose Beyond Borders exhibition included an eclectic range from abstract to figurative, paintings to sculptures, surreal to unreal.
There’s no question as to why John Loveday Freeman refers to his “elders” as “new antiques” – his oldest piece is approximately 500 years old! Freeman tenderly cleans, air-dries, softens and oils these discovered washed-up old growth trees – a process that takes over five years in [...]

In Beyond Borders: an Exhibition of Fine Art From Canada, viewers are presented with the diverse, delightful and emotionally powerful works of fine artists from across the border. This Thursday, September 12th was a very special day for us at Agora Gallery, and we did not let the torrential rain stop us from celebrating the openings of Vanida Amiot’s solo exhibition, The Persistence of Color and collective exhibition, Masters of the Imagination, featuring 28 of Latin America’s most talented up-and-coming artists.
Not only did we spend the night celebrating some of the finest artwork from Latin American countries, we were also pleased to collaborate with the From Here to Haiti organization, donating 20% of the sales of participating artists’ work to help those affected by the devastating earthquake of 2010. Over 200 art enthusiasts in attendance, it was surely a night to remember!
Patricia Brintle, Agora Gallery veteran, whose large-scale [...]
